What it does

Square turns a phone or tablet into a card reader and also handles online payments and invoices. Nonprofits use it to take donations, membership dues, and event or merchandise sales, with reports in one dashboard. The free plan has no monthly fee and charges per transaction, such as 2.6% plus 15 cents for in-person cards. Paid plans add features and lower fees, and are charged per location.
